Our well-appointed cottage is located on a five-acre property that fronts onto the beautiful Englishman River. Our large deck on the cottage offers our guests a view of the river. A five-minute hike down the bank - requiring sturdy shoes - provides our guests access to the river. A hike along the river is an exhilarating experience. The river twists and winds and has pools for swimming.
Serious hikers can follow the river into the Nature Trust Park. This awesome park eventually comes out at Top Bridge Regional Park. This park is very interesting and beautiful with its many unusual potholes and a recently built suspension bridge.
If you don't hike you can access Top Bridge Regional Park from the City of Parksville by car. There is a parking lot if you arrive by car.
Parksville is mid island on Vancouver Island. From Parksville it takes about 20 minutes to arrive at Hobos Pond.
Quick drives get guests to many delightful places on the mid island. Visit French Creek Marina. Guests can see the large fishing vessels who still ply the waters off our island.
A quick trip to Goats on the Roof Market in Coombs is vibrant with tourists from all over the world. Here you can enjoy restaurants, big ice cream cones and a market with fresh fruit, vegetables and gifts. Real goats live on the roof top of the Market.
Cuckoos Italian Restaurant located at the Goats on the Roof Market site and is a very beautiful place to enjoy good food within an elegant, natural and beautiful setting.
If you enjoy cooking your own meals, you will love our fully functional cottage kitchen. Guests can visit the Saturday morning Errington Market, a local farmers market with a rich selection of locally grown veggies as well as locally handcrafted gifts. French Creek has a fresh seafood market if you wish to taste local sea food.
During the summer months enjoy live music and concerts by the sea in the seaside park in downtown Parksville.
There are many golf courses, but a recent guest said he enjoyed golfing at Fairwinds Golf Course in Nanoose. If you are in that Nanoose Fairwinds area, we recommend a visit to Moorecroft Regional Park. It has easy hiking trails and heart stopping beautiful ocean vistas.
Day trips from Hobos Pond include favourite destinations such as a drive to Tofino on the West Coast or drive to Port Alberni for fish and chips at the main Wharf. Day trips to the seaside towns on the East side of the island Comox and Campbell River along the old highway are worth taking the time to visit.
Or take day trips to some of the outer islands like Denman and/or Hornby Island. Beware of the ferry schedule. Make sure you know when the last ferries leave the island. You need to coordinate Hornby Island ferries and the Denman Island ferry to ensure you make the last ferry off of Denman to Vancouver Island. Or you will have to spend the night on Denman. It happened to us!
A five-minute car trip from our cottage takes guests to the beautiful Englishman River Falls Provincial Park with its glorious waterfall and bridges and easy hiking trails. There are places to dive into deep, green pools and there are also some shallow pools for less intrepid swimmers.
Hobos Pond cottage can host four and/or six guests comfortably. Ask the hosts if you wish to add additional guests.
The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen with a washer and dryer. The living room has two leather loungers, a comfy chesterfield, and a TV where guests can watch Roku movies. The cottage has 3 queen size beds.
The cottage is equipped with cable and high-speed internet suitable for guests who want to work while relaxing at Hobos Pond. The cottage is an open concept but provides privacy for all our guests.
This comfortable and charming cottage shares the property with our main house but is situated far enough away to provide guests with privacy.
A very sturdy oak staircase leads to the sleeping loft. The main floor has a full bathroom with a shower and a jet bathtub, and the loft has a toilet and sink so the upstairs guests don't need to take the staircase to use the bathroom during the night.
This property has some dangers like a large pond and a big drop off to the river in one area which makes this property unsuitable for small children. So we only welcome guests over the age of 12 who can enjoy the property unsupervised.
Come and enjoy this beautiful place with us. Welcome!
